I grew up seeing my mother being extremely creative and artistic in everything she did. She wasn’t an artist by profession. She was a day care worker. However, she painted, designed posters, and made our home beautiful. She showed me that an artist is anyone who creates beauty around them.

It wasn’t until high school that I took my first real art class. It was then that I learned, yes learned, how to draw and see things with more detail and expression. I spent the next four years living in the art department of my high school. I took every art class available to me. I tried ceramics, painting, drawing, graphic design, and even print making. I loved it all.

It wasn’t until I moved out on my own that I started seeing and creating functional art. The inspiration of my mother and the skills I learned in school helped me to start seeing art as an every day functional tool. This lead me toward a Bachelor of Science degree in Web Design and Development at Brigham Young Universty. I love art because it brings beauty into our lives but I love it even more when it is functional.

Graphic and web design are extremely functional art forms. They bring beauty to advertisement, sales, charitable work, and all manner of promotions and business products. When I can combine the elements of art to share a message, I feel accomplished and fulfilled in my purpose. It is this drive that keeps me passionate about design. Everyone has a message, sometimes they just need help to share it.
